Eastern European TV Networks Cache Their Czechs

Television adspend within the Czech Republic leapt 14% year-on-year in the first half of 2005, reports local researcher TNS A-Connect. It represents the highest level of growth during the past four years.

In total, 321 companies spent €330 million ($399m; £227m) excluding discounts and bonuses. The three highest rollers were Danone, Nestlé and Procter & Gamble, respectively spending €24m, €18.6m and €12.6m. One advertiser, the retail cooperative Spar, upped its TV ad budget twenty-fold during the period.

Of the main commercial networks, Nova and Prima respectively took 70% and 18% of the H1 total spend; while public broadcasting channel Česká Televize received 12%.

The latter was ordered earlier this month by the nation's parliament to cease running ads from 2008 onward [WAMN: 04-Jul-05].
