Dow Jones Profits Rise with Robust Ad Revenues

24 July 2006

NEW YORK - Newspaper publisher Dow Jones has reported a jump in second-quarter profit, helped by increased ad revenue from the US edition of The Wall Street Journal and online operations, as well as tighter cost controls.

Net income rose to $28.8 million (€22.7m; £15.5m), from $861,000 a year earlier. Revenue rose 5.9% to $481.2m from $454.2m.

The Journal's addition last fall of a Weekend Edition helped boost ad revenue in the quarter and the company saw growth in revenue from technology and financial advertising, a weak spot during the past few years.
