DirecTV Extends TiVo Deal for Three YearsService

14 April 2006

ALVISO, CALIFORNIA - Following an extended period of uncertainty, TiVo and NewsCorp-controlled DirecTV Group have extended their service agreement for another three years.
The duo will continue to service customers who acquired a TiVo digital video recorder via their subscription to the satellite TV service. TiVo's long-running relationship with DirecTV had been set to end next year as the company switches to a different DVR platform.
In addition, TiVo and DirecTV agree not to assert patent rights against the other. The agreement also extends the advertising relationship between the two companies.
Specific financial terms of the agreement weren't disclosed, but they are said to be similar to the original 2003 deal.
