DirecTV Customer Growth Falls but Profits Rise

EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA: Satellite operator DirecTV has posted higher second quarter profits despite a slowing in subscriber growth.

The company, controlled by News Corporation, reported Q2 net income of $458.7 million (€356m; £240m) up from $161.5m during the year-ago period.

It added 125,000 net subscribers in the June quarter, a slower growth rate than the year ago period when it added 225,000 net customers. Total US subscribers were 15.51m at the end of June. Monthly customer churn rate fell to 1.59% from 1.7% a year ago
