Deutsche Telekom Lines up $90m Review

Telephone giant Deutsche Telekom is set to invite several agencies to pitch for a $90 million account thought to be centred on internet arm T-Online.

Marketing director Juergen Kindervater has asked Frankfurt’s Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and Hamburg-headquartered Jung von Matt to compete for the duties alongside two roster agencies, Düsseldorf’s Citigate SEA and Springer & Jacoby in Hamburg. A further agency may also enter the running.

The review follows Deutsche Telekom’s January divorce from Scholz & Friends in Hamburg, when it emerged that the shop’s Berlin office was also pursuing the $50m account of telecom rival Viag Interkom. The recent promotion of Sebastian Turner, a creative director involved in the Berlin bureau’s Viag Interkom pitch, to the Scholz & Friends board effectively killed off any hope of a reconciliation.
