Deutsche Post Reacts to Price Demands with Layoffs Threat

12 July 2002

Deutsche Post is warning that demands for lower mailing rates could lead to 10,000 redundancies and post office closures.

German postal regulator RegTP wants the post office to cut the cost of sending a letter by 7%, a reduction Deutsche Post claims will reduce profits by €1.5 billion ($1.49bn; £0.96bn) between 2003 and 2005, forcing extreme cutbacks.
