Despite Wal-Mart Loss, Omnicom Ups 2006 Net Income by 9.3%

NEW YORK: Omnicom Group on Tuesday underscored its position as world number one agency holding company with a glittering fourth quarter performance, posting net income of $277.2 million (€193.9m; £129.9m) - up by 9.7% year-on-year from $252.6m.

Worldwide revenue increased 9.4% to $3,216.2m from $2,939.4m in the fourth quarter of 2005, while domestic revenue rose 7.0% to $1,685.1m ($1,575.5m in the year-ago period). Excluding US business, revenue worldwide increased 12.3% to $1,531.1m.

Net income for 2006 as a whole increased 9.3% to $864.0m from $790.7m in the same period in 2005. Annual global revenue increased 8.5% to $11,376.9m and domestic revenue was up by 7.8% to $6,194.0m. International revenue increased 9.4% to $5,182.9m.

Whooped Omnicom ceo John Wren: "We made more progress in the last two years than in the 15 years that proceeded. I'm very bullish, given the position that we have, that we're going to move forward very, very fast."
