Desmond Merges Express Ad Department with OK! Magazine

16 February 2001

Novice newspaper tycoon Richard Desmond has merged the ad sales department of Express Newspapers with that of his celeb-fawning OK! magazine.

The restructure, overseen by Desmond’s henchman Stan Myerson, group managing director for the newspapers, sees the exit of Daily Express display advertising head Mark Milner and – so insiders report – Express Newspapers’ commercial director Paul Woolfenden. They follow the trail blazed by departing Express ad executives since porn purveyor Desmond’s takeover last November [WAMN: 23-Nov-00].

Myerson has appointed a quartet of advertising controllers including his spouse, Reneé Myerson, who will act both as ad controller for OK! and manager of the magazines group. Chris Marston is promoted to ad controller from ad manager, Daily Star; while Mark Hopkins retains as ad controller his former responsibilities for the Daily and Sunday Express.

Completing the line-up is Jeremy Slattery, previously ad manager for the Sunday and Daily Express magazines. As ad controller of group agency sales he will also be responsible for representing the newspaper titles to ad agencies.
