COPENHAGEN: Denmark's leading newspaper publishers have beefed up their efforts to see off the free Nyhedsavisen title being launched later this year by Icelandic media group 365.

Danish firm JP/Politiken premiered its giveaway 24 Timer last week, while rival Berlingske Officin is offering Dato.

International freesheet market leader Metro International is also expanding the Danish market with the launch of an afternoon Copenhagen edition, adding to its existing Metro Xpress, the country's largest circulation newspaper.
