Delta Prepares New Low-Cost US Airline for Take-Off

21 November 2002

Delta Air Lines is to enter the budget air travel sector by setting up a new low-cost carrier.

The Atlanta-based operator has been hit by the growing popularity of discount airlines such as JetBlue Airways and Southwest Airlines, which threaten to erode its leisure travel business.

Its new venture, yet to receive a name, is expected to take off early in 2003 with routes from John F Kennedy airport in New York to Florida destinations.
