Dell to Enter Japanese Electronics Market

01 December 2003

America's Dell Computer is taking on Japan's consumer electronics giants in their own backyard.

The world's biggest PC maker plans to launch a 17-inch, wide-screen computer monitor that can double as a standalone TV set using an internal tuner.

The move reflects Dell's decision to expand beyond its computing background into consumer electronics [WAMN: 26-Sep-03]. So far, however, its efforts have been restricted to the US.

The monitor will be able to pick up digital terrestrial signals, which are due to launch in Japan today (Monday). It is expected to cost about 10% less than competing models made by Japanese firms.
