Correction: Granada Reports H1 Loss – Not Profit

31 May 2002

We apologize to readers for a major inaccuracy in Thursday’s WAMN.

Using data sourced from BBC Online we reported that Granada Media had posted a first half profit of £43 million ($63.04m; €67.24m) compared with £83m in the same period a year ago.

This is not so.

Later reports appearing today in The Times (London) and the Wall Street Journal record that Granada – Britain's largest TV broadcaster – actually posted a pretax loss of £169 million ($115.6m; €123.5m) for the six months ended March 31, compared to a profit of £12 million a year ago. Its net loss was £191 million, compared with a loss of £17 million.

WAMN makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of its reporting and we repeat our apology.
