Coke Loses Global Marketing Supremo

Coca-Cola’s global marketing boss Steve Jones is reportedly stepping down.

Jones, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, has overseen the beverage giant’s worldwide communications strategy since January 2000. According to his official Coke biography, he was “one of the key architects in the [company’s] reinvention.”

Several names are already being tipped as likely replacements, among them Chris Lowe, Coke’s North American marketing boss, and Geoffrey Frost, corporate vp for global marketing and communications at Motorola.

Jones’ position is thought to have been undermined by the appointment of Steven Heyer as president/chief operating officer in December. Last week, it was Heyer who called on agencies and media firms to fashion a new marketing model [WAMN: 06-Feb-03].
