Coca-Cola among top UK drinks brands

08 January 2010

LONDON: Coca-Cola, Robinson's and Nescafé are among the most popular drinks brands in the UK, according to a new study.

Key Note, the market research firm, has estimated that the UK drinks market was worth £58.3 billion ($92.7bn; €64.8bn) in 2009, a figure that equates to around 6% of all consumer spending in the country.

Alcoholic drinks accounted for around three-quarters of this total, with soft drinks delivering £12bn of all revenues, and hot drinks a further £3bn.

Coca-Cola is regularly consumed by 55% of shoppers, the same figure as posted by Robinsons, with Nescafé on 51%, and Tetley on 45%.

While the wine and cider markets are both growing, the beer category's share of alcohol sales has fallen from 50% to 42.9% in the last ten years.
According to Key Note's estimates, the spirits and liqueurs segment's volume and value share has remained stable over the same period.
