Chrysler Sales Chief Quits to Deal Mercs

07 December 2006

DETROIT: Joe Eberhardt, evp of global sales and marketing for Chrysler Group, is to leave the automaker to fill an unspecified "retailing position" in Mercedes-Benz' US operations.

Chrysler is zip-lipped on the timing of high-flyer Eberhardt's eyebrow-raising departure or where his new appointment is located. A Chrysler spokesman stressed, however: "I guarantee you haven't heard the last of Joe."

His reassignment is linked to protests from US Chrysler dealers over his demands that they take more vehicles in a bid to reduce the company's inventory.
