Chrysler Nabs Chinese Automaker's US Guru

SHANGHAI, China: "An offer I just cannot turn down," is General Motors' former China marketing boss Philip Murtaugh's description of his new appointment by Chrysler Group as head of its Asian operations.

Murtaugh (pictured), who has spent the past twelve months as an evp at expansionist Chinese automaker Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corporation, now switches to the task of building new partnerships for Chrysler in Asian markets.

His departure will be as much of a setback to SAIC as it is a feather in the cap of recently appointed Chrysler chairman Robert Nardelli. It follows last week's recruitment of Toyota's Jim Press to a mirror role in North America.
