Chinese Consumers Carry on Spending

Sales of consumer goods in China are set to top yuan 6 trillion ($724bn, €563bn, £384bn) in 2005, a rise of ten percent on last year.

The figures come from the nation's Ministry of Commerce, which also says sales of production materials will rise by around 14% to yuan 13tr.

Chain stores, logistics businesses and ecommerce have shown the fastest rates of growth through the past three years. Sales have grown by thirty percent as the number of chain stores has increased by 23.6%.
