China's Google Doppelgänger Pumps Profits 500%

BEIJING: Ad-funded Chinese internet search engine - currently ranked world number four and rising - has posted record Q4 profits, up year-on-year by a dazzling 500% to Yuan 122.8m ($15.84m; €12.05m; £8.11m) from Yuan 24.5m.

The buoyant final quarter lifted full-year profit toYuan 310.8m.

Says chairman/ceo Robin Li: "We are pleased to deliver another quarter of robust results as our rapidly growing brand recognition and our focus on providing the best user experience allowed us to strengthen our leading position in Chinese search."

Baidu offers users an index of over 740 million web pages, 80 million images and 10 million multimedia files. Its most popular feature is MP3 Search, while the Baidu 500 is a comprehensive listing of popular Chinese music. Rankings are based on download numbers.
