China Viewers Tune into America's HBO

Discerning TV viewers in China can now share in the wonders of America's most innovative programme provider HBO.

Subscribers to digital pay channel First Theatre are enjoying six hours of HBO shows daily, thanks to a deal between China's CCTV company and Time Warner.

HBO also works with Shanghai SMG group to air fifty US films each month to 20,000 subscribers.

In 2004 China had two million digital TV subscribers while traditional TV viewers topped 340 million.
