China Posts 9.7% Q1 Growth

The Chinese economy grew by nearly 10% year-on-year in the first quarter.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, GDP for the first three months of the year surged by 9.7% compared with Q1 2003 to reach $326.6 billion (€273.7bn; £182.9m).

In addition, first-quarter retail sales (adjusted for price rises) jumped 9.2% to $154.2bn.
