China Displaces USA as Top Japanese Trade Partner

TOKYO: China has overtaken the US as Japan’s top trading partner, according to latest government data. Exports and imports between Japan and China, excluding Hong Kong, totalled ¥27.8 trillion ($261bn; €177bn; £131bn) in 2007, compared with ¥25.2tr in Japan/US trade.

Japan's exports to China grew 19%, from a year earlier, while those to the US slipped 0.2%.
Auto exports to China climbed 79.2%, while those to the US edged up just 0.5%.

Japanese exports in 2007 were worth ¥83.94tr while imports hit ¥73.12tr, both the highest on record.
