Canuck Media Baron Ken Thomson Dies at 82

TORONTO - Media tycoon Lord Thomson of Fleet, more usually known as Ken, died Monday at the age of 82.

He helped transform his father Roy's Thomson Corporation print empire into one of the world's biggest electronic publishers. He was Canada's richest man and the ninth wealthiest in the world, according to Forbes magazine.

He took over the family holdings in 1976, since when the company - which has hung on to its flagship Canadian daily, The Globe and Mail - has evolved into a global electronic information powerhouse with 2005 revenue of C$9.6 billion ($8.7bn; €6.9bn; £4.7bn).
