Cablevision to Trial Offline Storage for TV Program Content

29 March 2006

NEW YORK - Plans to test a new type of digital-video recorder in the coming months are under way. Cablevision Systems has unveiled new technology that will enable customers to record and store shows on its network instead of on a box at home.
The tests, which start in the second quarter, will be limited to fewer than 1,000 homes on Long Island.
"Given the enormous popularity of digital-video recorders, and the expense associated with purchasing and deploying conventional DVR devices, we believe we've developed a smarter and more elegant approach," says chief operating officer Tom Rutlege.
