CONSUMER DATABASE research specialist Claritas is in hot water over its recent publication of estimated audience coverage by the new ONdigital service. The broadcaster is up in arms at Claritas’ findings, seen by some as a deliberate attempt to smear the terrestrial digital service. The report suggests that 'only 43% of the population will be able to receive all of ONdigital’s 30 channel line-up at launch, and 36% will receive no coverage whatsoever. The remaining 21% will only receive partial coverage.' Claritas denied any attempt to smear ONdigital, claiming it had produced the research solely for its own internal purposes. However, managing director, Mark Patron admitted that his company had carried out 'a lot of work' for ONdigital’s deadly rival, BSkyB.
