Insurance giant CGU has launched asserta home, a new online venture targeting people planning to move home. Users register with the service to trawl an 180,000-strong property database, searchable by key criteria. They then receive daily email updates on properties matching their stated profile. The information can also be received by WAP-enabled mobile phones.

Also on offer is an online mortgage from E-loan and plans are in train to add a similar facility for insurance and legal services. Details of these services will be e-mailed to registrants at appropriate times during the home-buying process. Says asserta home customer marketing director David Lundholm: "We are looking at all the steps people have to go through when they buy a home and trying to offer services that will make the process a lot less painful."

Third party banner advertising is not currently on offer, although CGU aims to introduce the facility later this year. Advertisers will be able to specify only those segments of the database that fit their target audience.
