Britain's EMI in Talks With AOL TW to Acquire Warner Music

25 February 2003

It was revealed Monday that London-headquartered EMI Group, the globe’s largest independent music label, is immersed with AOL Time Warner in “informal talks” about the marriage of their respective music businesses.

To the surprise of many, it is the British company that is dangling the dollars – or so implied the Wall Street Journal yesterday, suggesting that the deal on the table could be worth upward of $3 billion (€2.78bn; £1.89bn).

Neither company is prepared to comment on the negotiations.
