As predicted [WAMN: 02-Apr-01], Steven Brill, chairman-ceo at Brill Media Ventures and at Primedia-owned Media Central, has unveiled a deal with Powerful Media, the company behind media-on-media website Inside.com and magazine Inside.
The agreement is being portrayed as a merger, with Powerful Media shareholders set to receive an undisclosed stake in Brill Media Holdings.
The magazines Brill’s Content and Inside will both be replaced by a single title, Inside Content, the launch date of which is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, the Inside.com site will adopt a tiered subscription structure and become the online portal for the websites of Media Central, a collection of around 170 media properties.
Brill admitted that, due to “overlapping”, there would be job cuts at “both entities”. Details have not been released, though it is known that Inside.com editorial staff will be offered posts at some of Media Central’s publications.
