Boom Time for Irish Adspend

Irish newspapers report a boom in advertising revenues.

Industry organisation National Newspapers of Ireland says adspend in national papers grew by nearly 17% at the end of the third quarter, compared with the same period in 2004.

Advertisers spent a total of €244.2 million ($286.8m; £164.7m) in all NNI publications between January and September of this year - an increase of €35m.

The Institute of Advertising Practitioners in Ireland says television advertising is also continuing to grow. TV revenues increased from €168m (January-September 2004) to €192m for the same period in 2005. Radio also performed well, increasing revenues by €10m to €75m.

Outdoor advertising grew by €9m to €89m. Cinema fell back marginally, from €6.4m to €6.3m. Online is showing the same kind of growth levels as TV, about 15%, but still accounts for just 1% of total Irish adspend.

Print media totalled €674m, up only slightly compared to €669m for the same period last year.
