Time Warner is being tipped as a possible bidder for troubled US cable operator Adelphia Communications

Comcast and Cox Communications, are also cited as likely contenders for the country’s fifth biggest cable outfit which serves 5.4 million homes.

Adelphia filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last June after being hit by a $2 billion (€1.6b; £1.3b) fraud and accounting scandal.

Despite the consolidation of the US cable industry some estimates put the company’s value at $20billion.
