Barclaycard has decided to scrap its IndigoSquare online shopping brand and merge it with ShopSmart, the e-commerce portal it acquired in April [WAMN: 04-Apr-01].
The IndigoSquare brand will no longer be used, despite a recent ad campaign featuring television personality Angus Deayton. Surfers trying to access the site will be redirected to ShopSmart, which will be revamped to include elements of IndigoSquare. A “handful” of jobs will be lost.
Barclaycard said the decision to keep the ShopSmart name was “straightforward”, given the portal’s strength in the British e-commerce market. Even prior to its acquistion, ShopSmart claimed to be the nation’s largest online shopping portal, attracting over 500,000 visitors per month.
