Bailey’s Bum’s Rush for Trinity Mirror Marketing Chief

More gore on the boardroom broadloom at Trinity Mirror as the third senior TM executive to feel the slash of Sly Bailey’s immaculately manicured talons, departed Britain's largest newspaper group on Tuesday.

Group marketing director Alisdair Luxmore, who fell victim to the group’s recently appointed chief executive, former IPC Media queen Sly Bailey, is thought to have paid the price for the continuing circulation decline of TM flagship, the Daily Mirror.

According to last week’s ABC data, this sank below the psychologically important two-million mark for the first time in its history – now languishing at 1.997,846 daily. Luxmore was also responsible for TM’s national Sunday titles, The People and Sunday Mirror. He is replaced by group editorial director (and former News of the World editor) Phil Hall.

Other top names to have departed since Bailey’s image materialised in the corporate Mirror earlier this year are Richard Wyatt, director of corporate development, and Mark Haysom – managing director of Trinity Mirror's national newspapers, whose exit handed Bailey day-to-day control of the national press stable plus Scottish titles Daily Record and Sunday Mail [WAMN: 11-Apr-03].

According to Bailey, her tenure on the titles will be medium-term only: “For the foreseeable future, months, not years.”
