Anticipating yesterday’s decision by US District Judge Thomas Penfield to sunder the software mammoth in twain, Microsoft immediately filed a request for a stay in the US District Court, Washington, plus a notice of appeal with the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

In the event that a stay is refused, Microsoft’s business practices and marketing plans could be required to comply with extensive court-mandated changes within three months.

The company, which has recently run ads arguing its case direct to the public, says it has no plans to run new ads and would not be drawn as to future ad strategy. Its agency is McCann-Erickson, San Francisco and New York.
