08 December 2000

The Online Travel Portal, an internet travel agency backed by nine leading airlines, has appointed BMP DDB to handle its £30 million account.

The identity of three other shops which pitched for the business has not been revealed, although OTP observed that: “All the agencies involved were very impressive – the final decision was a very difficult one to make”

Gushed BMP DDB’s joint managing director Chris Cowpe: “We're so happy to be helping to create a top international brand with a terrific group of leading companies”.

Online Travel Portal has also appointed Wolff Olins to oversee brand identity, while the assignment of media duties is expected soon.

OTP is backed by British Airways, Finnair, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Alitalia, Aer Lingus, Iberia and Austrian Airlines. The co-venture aims to offer consumers travel-related services plus a wide range of airline information – including airlines that are not shareholders in the scheme.
