BBDO Sets up Pentamark as Standalone Entity in UK

19 October 2001

PentaMark, the dedicated agency founded by BBDO Worldwide when it won Daimler-Chrysler’s $2.4 billion consolidated ad duties last year [WAMN: 06-Nov-01], is to launch a standalone operation in the UK, thereby building a firewall between D-C and the Volvo business handled by London sister shop Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO.

Pentamark UK is headed by Charlie Thompson, newly-appointed general manager and former head of new business at AMV Advance, a specialist in integrated marketing. Although isolated from the main AMV agency, Pentamark will maintain links with AMV Advance, utilising its resources as necessary.

The fledgling receives the accolade of lead creative agency for the client’s pan-European business and senior creative hirings include a writer who worked on BMW at WCRS and an art director with automotive inspiration at FCB and McCann-Erickson.

Asked if Pentamark UK will seek additional clients Thompson was coy: “You can draw your own conclusions,” he told Campaign.
