BBC and Microsoft Pair to Develop Digital Strategy

SEATTLE: UK state-funded broadcaster the BBC has signed an agreement with software titan Microsoft to explore ways of developing its digital services.

The 'memorandum of understanding', which would give Microsoft a major role in the BBC's delivery of internet-based digital content in the future, was inked by the corporation's director general Mark Thomson, its director of new media and technology Ashley Highfield and Bill Gates.

The signatures, however, do not commit the broadcaster to buying any Microsoft technology.

The BBC is working on several digital projects, including one to make its radio and TV archives available online.
