MOBILE PHONE NETWORK Orange has fired its former group print manager Paul Squires and called-in the Avon and Somerset police commercial fraud squad to investigate an alleged £ multi-million fraud. A police spokesman confirmed that several people, including Squires, the only Orange staffer involved, have been interviewed and put on police bail. The investigation centres around the placing of print contracts for advertising and promotional material to the value of several million pounds. A decision as to whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute is expected by the end of July.

An internal investigation is in progress at British Airways following complaints by an external supplier about a member of its marketing, communications and information department. These concern an anonymous executive and the basis on which contracts were awarded to suppliers. Said a BA spokesman: 'We are obliged to consider such complaints to establish whether there is any foundation in them.' Dm, design and ad agencies are not thought to be involved in the affair.
