Airlines Get Green Light to Merge Loyalty Programs

02 February 2001

The US government has given the green light to American Airlines and struggling TWA to integrate their respective frequent-flier programs – a prelude to the planned total merger.

AAdvantage program members will earn additional ‘miles’ when traveling TWA and, from March 15, can use these for free flights.

Their TWA counterparts, Aviators, are not so favored and are unable to redeem their miles for flights via American. However, the latter has undertaken to credit TWA program members with their accumulated miles if and when the merger is finalized.
