Aegis Appoints Unilever Boss as Non-Exec Director

09 September 2003

In a highly unusual move Charles Strauss, chairman of Unilever’s North American operations, has joined the board of Aegis Group as a non-executive director.

Aegis is the holding company of global media network Carat, which numbers among its top clients a range of high-spending Unilever brands, including ice creams, frozen fish and ready-meals.

Strauss, who enjoys the majestic title of chairman of the North America Committee and president and chief executive officer of Unilever USA, also served a stint some years back in the UK with US brassiere company Playtex.

Says Aegis chairman Lord Colin Sharman: “I am delighted that Charles has decided to join the board. He brings considerable international experience to Aegis and we look forward to his contribution.”

Of Aegis’ other independent directors only one – Robert Lerwill, executive director of finance and chief executive officer of regional business at Cable & Wireless – is also an existing client.
