Ads Up at Knight Ridder

16 October 2002

America’s number two newspaper group Knight Ridder announced on Monday Q3 results in accord with analysts’ expectations, buoyed by an increase in advertising revenues.

Net profits for the quarter were $55.5 million (€56.64m; £35.79m), or 67 cents per share, compared to $55.7m (65 cents) a year earlier.

Total advertising revenue dipped 0.1% against a year earlier, although the figure rose 2.2% in September thanks to a 4.2% rise in retail slots and an increase of 5.2% in the ‘general’ category. This represented KR’s largest monthly increase since October 2000.
