YET ANOTHER direct-sell airline took wing in January as Buzz, the KLM-backed low-cost carrier, took-off on its maiden flight from Stansted. The newcomer piles the pressure on British Airways’ loss-making sub-sidiary Go, also based at Stansted, as Buzz has opted to fly its rival’s routes to Milan and Lyons.

Another Stansted based low-cost airline, Ryanair, will feel the cold wind of competition, as Buzz also competes head-on for traffic to Frankfurt. In common with other low-cost carriers, Buzz is ticketless and of-fers no inflight frills. But for an extra £10 it offers certain must-have amenities such as fasttrack passage through security and use of a business lounge with drinks, newspapers and laptop computers.
