AOL Poised to Name Jonathan Miller CEO

06 August 2002

Jonathan Miller, formerly in senior positions at USA Interactive and Viacom, has been named by AOL Time Warner as the next chief executive of its troubled AOL online business, according to insiders.

Assuming the appointment is confirmed later today, as widely expected, Miller will acquire the hotseat vacated involuntarily more than two weeks ago by former ceo Robert Pittman [WAMN: 19-Jul-02].

Until joining Barry Diller’s USA Networks as chief executive of its broadcast unit in 1997, Miller was managing director of Viacom cable channel Nickelodeon, and launched the brand’s first international channel Nick UK.

He is seen as the preferred candidate, bringing to the job extensive communications and media experience but without prior AOL or online baggage. He would be joining the company as it goes under the twin microscopes of the US Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
