Following Air Canada’s recent acquisition of Canadian Airlines, an initial public offering could be on the cards for the two carriers’ merged frequent-flier program.

Now restructured as Aeroplan, a separate entity within the airline, the venture is led by president Rupert Duchesen, formerly chief integration executive, Air Canada and Canadian Airlines. The unit aims to pursue an aggressive growth strategy, developing new and existing partnerships, in addition to providing an international loyalty and customer relationship management and advisory service.

Aeroplan members represent over half of of Air Canada's traffic, contributing over 60% of its passenger revenues. The integration of Canadian’s Canadian Plus into Aeroplan should be complete by January 2001, boosting membership of the program to five million.
