Some twenty local authorities are considering siting 4-ft poster units on main-road lampposts. Each unit could generate income of around £130 per week, estimates poster contractor Mills & Allen, half of which would go to cash-strapped local councils. The sector could become worth £15m within five years, helping to defray the UK’s £250m annual maintenance bill on its 6.75 street lamps. The lamppost poster unit has been designed by architect Patrick Davies and is currently on display at the Power of the Poster exhibition at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.
