The UPN Network’s WWF Smackdown saw its 7UP advertising thrown out of the ring after Dr Pepper/Seven Up pulled its campaign because “we didn't think 'Smackdown' was an appropriate venue from the standpoint of sexual innuendo, unacceptable language and extreme violence".

The move follows similar actions by Coca-Cola and MCI WorldCom. According to a spoke for Dr Pepper/Seven Up, it originally advertised on ‘Smackdown’ because of the show’s high ratings in the teen market.
