LONDON: This year's Young Lions, an annual contest for UK creatives starting out in the ad industry, has been launched by the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and Guardian News & Media.

The 2011 competition - open to all those born on or after June 25th 1982 - will see teams of ad professionals developing a series of "mock" campaign briefs set by Centrepoint.

Young Lions will compete in media, print and cyber categories, as well as an additional category new for 2011, the Young Marketer, which is open to those born on or before June 25th 1980.

Registration for the competition opened on February 14th and closes on March 16th.

The brief is revealed on March 25th, with the deadline for submissions coming three days later.

Last year's Young Lions attracted over 50 entrants.

The winning four teams will be given the opportunity to attend the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, which takes place in late June and culminates in one of ad land's most closely-watched awards ceremonies.

As reported last month, Warc will be hosting the winning cases for the Creative Effectiveness Lions, a new category for 2011.

Only 2010 winners are eligible for this prize, with judges looking for campaigns which have resulted in measurably positive business effects for clients.

The entry deadline for the Creative Effectiveness Lions is March 4th, while the deadline for all other categories is March 11th.
