Credit and debit card colossus Visa International announced Monday it is to extend its sponsorship of the Olympic Games for a further ten years – the pork barrel end of which will see Visa named as the exclusive payment card and official payment service for all Olympic events over the next eight years.
The deal covers all participating national Olympic committees and their competing teams. It also confers the right to use Olympic marks and graphics on all Visa advertising and promotions plus worldwide marketing rights. Visa will also enjoy official status for the Paralympic Games through to 2012.
Enthused Visa International president/ceo Malcolm Williamson: “The Olympic Games stand on their own as one of the most exciting and popular sporting and cultural events in the world and we are delighted to extend our sponsorship through 2012.”
Nothing as vulgar as dollar tonnages was allowed to sully the Olympian spirit of the occasion.
