NEW YORK: US radio broadcaster Entercom Communications has agreed to a $4.25 million (€3.23m; £2.17m) settlement of a payola investigation by New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer.

Regulators have been probing allegations that 'gifts' and cash were accepted by radio staff from record companies in return for airplay.

Spitzer, who becomes governor of New York next month, accepted a $2m settlement from CBS Radio over similar allegations earlier this year [WARC News: 26-Oct-06].

Entercom said in statement it did not admit any wrongdoing, but settled the suit "in the interests of the company, our employees and our shareholders".
