MAIDENHEAD, UK: British video-advertising specialist Packet Vision is claiming a world-first IPTV  advertising campaign, precisely targeted at a predefined audience - namely university students.

The ads, which ran for two weeks last October, featured an unidentified financial client. During the 40-second spot, the students saw a message for a different brand to that seen by the general viewing population.

Packet Vision worked in partnership with Inuk Freewire - an IPTV network which provides triple play services to UK universities via students' laptop computers.

Comments Packet Vision's ceo, Charlie Horrell: "This is the first time IPTV has enabled targeted advertising. In this instance, we've inserted an ad into a closed IPTV network for students, but that's just the beginning.

"As the service develops, TV advertisers will be able to select IPTV audiences on a range of demographic or geographic profiles."

Packet Vision, which also has offices in the US and France, plans to develop the managed ads service to include mobile TV, web TV and future video platforms.
