LONDON: The Incorporated Society of British Advertisers is lobbying the government to reject the findings of a review that urges curbs on local authorities' sale of electoral-roll data.

ISBA has written to the government's special adviser on media matters, the ex-Ofcom ceo Stephen Carter, claiming that "losing access to the register would mean direct marketers relying on less accurate sources of data and an increasing amount of wrongly addressed mail".

Adds ISBA media and advertising director Bob Wootton: "This would undermine current environmental initiatives and would be at odds with the review's objectives."

The national Direct Marketing Association has already voiced its opposition to the findings of the Data Sharing Review.
