The offspring of the union between the UK's two largest radio groups, GWR and Capital, will be named GCap Media. The new company will command around 40% of the national radio advertising market.

The name is expected to be approved by shareholders prior to completion of the £711 million ($1.36bn, €1.02bn) deal in May. The design branding has been created by Capital's inhouse team.

Says GWR executive chairman Ralph Bernard: "The name GCap Media retains elements of both the Capital Radio and GWR brands and reflects the important contribution both businesses will make to the merged group.

"This is a pivotal time for commercial radio as advances in digital technology open up new opportunities and GCap Media will have greater scale and financial resources to take full advantage."
